CANCELLED The Wicked Pilgrim: talk by Randal Charlton

Unfortunately, due to concerns about Covid 19, this talk has been cancelled.

We will hope to host a similar event later in the year if and when the threat of the virus is reduced. Please check back on our events calendar where we will post the latest updates about our activities during this uncertain time.

Bassetlaw District Council invite you to a talk by Randal Charlton, son of Warwick Charlton who funded, helped build and sailed Mayflower II to America in 1957. The scale replica of the original Mayflower has been carefully restored in preparation for the 400th anniversary events and is sailing between Provincetown and Plymouth Massachuetts right now.

But, excuse the pun, the building of Mayflower II was not plain sailing and Randal gives a detailed account of the hurdles his father overcame to fulfil his wish of giving the ship to the American people. There is an opportunity to view footage from the ’50s and see press cuttings about this remarkable achievement.

The talk is free but places muct be booked by contacting sandra.withington@bassetlaw.gov.uk or calling Bassetlaw Museum on 01777 713749.

Following the talk there will be guided tours of Pilgrims Gallery at Bassetlaw Museum.
